MECC Maastricht
MECC Maastricht is an exhibition and congress centre in the Randwyck district, in the southern Netherlands. It offers over 30,000 square metres of indoor exhibition space, plus a renovated conference centre with two auditoria seating up to around 1,700, 55 break-out rooms and a 2,500 square metre expo foyer. The venue holds the Green Key Gold sustainability label.
Our records disagree on the hall count: the venue summary describes three event halls while our structured field says eight. We have not reconciled that against MECC directly, so treat the number as unconfirmed and take hall allocation from the organiser.
TEFAF 2027 and gallery-grade building
MECC has hosted TEFAF, the world's leading fine art and antiques fair, for more than 35 years. The 2027 edition runs 13-18 March 2027, with invitation-only preview days on 11 and 12 March. The 2026 edition had 277 exhibitors from over 20 countries and over 50,000 visitors across the eight-day run, according to the organiser.
TEFAF is the reason Maastricht matters disproportionately to its size, and it is unlike almost any other fair in this directory. The halls are transformed into a gallery-grade environment, and stand finish, lighting and security are held to museum standards. Lighting in particular is a specialist discipline here: you are lighting artworks for close inspection by buyers spending serious money, not lighting a product display. Security and high-value art handling carry their own requirements.
The eight-day run also matters. That is far longer than the three or four days typical of a trade fair, so stand durability and on-site support over the full period belong in the brief. If you are exhibiting at TEFAF, look for a contractor with demonstrable art-fair or museum experience rather than general trade-fair work, and ask to see it. For MECC's other trade and congress events, briefs are much more conventional.
