Book Summary:

Told that she must not have children Julia stubbornly ignores all advice and risks her life to have a son, Tommy. In the following years and decades both mother and son are forced by circumstances to draw upon their determination, courage, wit and self-preservation to survive. Tragedy and death, personal and emotional loss, the horrors he witnessed in the war make Tommy an adult by the age of 10 and shape Tommy's character. He risks his life in 1956 and escapes from Communism that has risen from the ashes of Fascism. Working hard in a new country he must deal with different obstacles. From Budapest in the 'twenties, to London in the 'nineties, this is a family saga of three generations, ravaged by two wars and adverse circumstances. Ultimately, the story proves that there is always hope, even against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, provided one has courage, resilience, and mental stamina.

Book Summary:

What we refer to as “modern man” sprang into existence some forty thousand years ago. These ancestors of ours entered a world dominated by Neanderthals, a hardy bunch, stronger than we and equally as smart. How we managed to survive and the Neanderthals did not is a story that has never been told. Until now. An ancient astronaut awakening from a 40-thousand-year sleep has no idea who he is or why he is floating naked in the middle of an empty ocean. Chance brings him to combine forces with a young woman on a passing sailboat about to be murdered by Bahamian drug runners. Driven by separate goals but increasingly attracted to one another, the two plot to turn the tables on a confused but determined mob. As the astronaut slowly recalls his ancient past, the gripping story of how he (and we) got here unfolds.

Book Summary:

In the grip of a raging thunderstorm Arnie Bottelmiller, his small son Timmy, and his fiance Julie are forced down and crash land on an island in the wilderness area of Northern Minnesota. Arnie is badly injured and immobile. He and Julie, who is also injured but able to function, wait for rescue for a few days and then finally realize their only chance for survival is for Julie, Timmy and Jake the dog, to walk out. A trek of over eighty miles of sometimes impenetrable forest, with nothing more than the clothing on their backs, a fishing pole, a crude map and a lighter with very little fluid left. They have a strange and unnerving encounter with a wild timber wolf who proves to be their friend and not their enemy. A lot of emotions come out in the story, with family and friends holding vigils behind the scenes, unaware of Julie, Timmy and Jakes courageous fight for survival.

Book Summary:

In Never Look Back, three young women have been found brutally murdered in south London, their bodies discarded in plain view, the victims only yards away from help during each attack. And each time, the murderer gets a little bit bolder. Detective Inspector Mike Lockyer is the head of homicide on the South London police force, and with three bodies on his watch and a killer growing in confidence, he and DS Jane Bennett are frantically trying to find the link between these seemingly isolated incidents. Slowly, the case is also invading Lockyer's life outside the office, and the fact that his daughter matches the victim profile is putting a painful strain on their already fragile relationship. Meanwhile, Sarah Grainger has a shadowy stalker following her every move. Once an outgoing London photographer, Sarah has begun locking herself away, almost too afraid to leave the house. Now her stalker's actions are escalating. He's desperate to tell Sarah a secret...a secret that Lockyer needs to know. In her compelling and tautly-written debut, Clare Donoghue traces the paths of these captivating, three-dimensional characters as their lives become dangerously and inextricably entwined.
